Join Jocelyn Green (and special guests!)
on The Windy City Saga Tour!
Chicago, Aug 31- Sept 2, 2023
Join Christy Award-winning author Jocelyn Green for a weekend in Chicago like none other. This will be my third time hosting a Chicago readers trip, and this one promises to be an incredible experience drawing on the best that Chicago and I have to offer historical fiction lovers! (It doesn't hurt that this time we'll have the best weather of all, with local temps typically in the low 70s at this time of year.) We’ll explore the city’s rich history through the sites found in Veiled in Smoke, Shadows of the White City, and Drawn by the Current.
See the itinerary page for full details, but highlights include:
- A visit from Catherine O'Leary, who is ready to exonerate herself from being blamed for the Great Chicago Fire!
- Guided walking tour of the famous urban greenspace, Lincoln Park
- A joint program with Jocelyn Green and the Eastland Disaster Historical Society at the Chicago Maritime Museum
- Breakfast Book Club with Jocelyn Green AND special guests, bestselling authors Kate Breslin and Laura Frantz
- Historic building tour and lunch in The Walnut Room at Macy’s (formerly Marshall Field’s)--Kate Breslin and Laura Frantz will be joining us for this too!
- Visit to the Chicago Cultural Center (the city’s first dedicated public library)
- Optional: A Novel-Tea Evening with the Authors featuring seven novelists of Christian historical fiction!
But that’s not all. Other optional excursions include:
- A cruise on the Chicago River
- The Art Institute, one of the best art museums in the world and one of only two buildings still standing that were built for the World’s Fair of 1893
- The Museum of Science & Industry, originally built as the Palace of Fine Arts for the 1893 World’s Fair. Explore the Wooded Island next to MSI, also constructed for the World’s Fair.
And more!
Plenty of free time will allow you to customize your weekend and visit the attractions, shops, and/or restaurants that are important to you.
Our home in Chicago will be the iconic and unparalleled Palmer House hotel (lobby pictured below), as seen in both Veiled in Smoke and Shadows of the White City. For those who choose to stay Saturday night, you may opt to attend A Novel-Tea Evening with the Authors in the Crystal Room of the hotel, where we'll be joined by bestselling and award-winning authors Lynn Austin, Amanda Barratt, Kate Breslin, Laura Frantz, Susie Finkbeiner, and Joanna Davidson Politano.
See a YouTube video tour of the hotel here, and a brief taste of its history in a YouTube video here.
Its downtown location puts us within an easy walk of several attractions and many restaurants. I’ve highlighted a few on the snapshot below, but you can get a better sense of our location by looking up our location on Google Maps and exploring the area that way.
