World's Fair Christmas in Chicago

Join Jocelyn Green for a
World's Fair Christmas in Chicago Weekend
Dec. 8-11, 2022!

The Windy City Saga Tour was such a success last April, I decided to host another weekend with readers in Chicago this December! The city will be all decked out for the holidays, full of magical experiences. This weekend's theme will be the World's Fair of 1893, which was the setting for my novel Shadows of the White City, book 2 in The Windy City Saga.

Here's what you can expect:

  • A private tour of a Gilded Age mansion, complete with a catered dinner in the conservatory afterwards. During dessert, I'll present a customized program just for you.
  • Lunch in Macy's Walnut Room with the giant Christmas tree soaring in the center of the room.
  • A World's Fair-themed tour hosted by Kevin Doerksen. With his expert guidance and enthusiasm, we'll take a shuttle and scout out sites significant in 1893.
  • A program given Friday morning by social reformer Jane Addams herself (a living historian in period dress), right in our hotel.
  • Explore Christkindlmarket, the famous outdoor German Christmas market, just blocks from our hotel.
  • Saturday night's grand finale will be a visit by Bertha Palmer (another historian/actress in period dress), who will present a program to us in the Palmer House Crystal Room. Bertha Palmer was the wife of Potter Palmer, who founded the hotel we're staying in—but she did so much more than that, especially during the World's Fair.
  • During your free time, do your Christmas shopping along the Magnificent Mile, enjoy a Christmas tea at The Drake Hotel, ice skate at Millennium Park, and/or visit the Art Institute or Museum of Science and Industry, both of which are the only remaining buildings erected for the World's Fair.
  • Add your own special events: choose from a performance of the Nutcracker set at the 1893 World's Fair; attend a concert from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; or see the play, A Christmas Carol, the Charles Dickens favorite.

We'll be lodging at the historic Palmer House, of course, just like thousands of guests who came to see the World's Fair in 1893. Choose from room options with either a king bed or two double beds.

Located at 17 E. Monroe Street, Its downtown address puts us within an easy walk of several attractions and many restaurants.
