Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I thought I'd let my snapshots from my recent trip to Gettysburg do most the talking in this blog post. Though we took hundreds of photos, I'm mostly just sharing scenes that relate to my latest release, Widow of Gettysburg, with a few "just for fun" shots thrown in. The Gettysburg Grand Give-away!

I've teamed up a couple of very talented ladies to bring you a remarkable give-away! Here's what we have for one lucky winner:

I like the pictures of monument of Elizabeth Thorn, I also like the picture of the military cannons and the guys dressed up in the military uniforms. I love history and these pictures really do make your book come alive even more because you can now visualize certain parts of the book. Your pictures are beautiful. Jocelyn, this photo blog was SO interesting, especially since I just finished Widow of Gettysburg. Wonderful book and then to see your photos just made it more real. My favorite...that's really hard! Probably the last picture of the flowers growing out of the rock. Very touching.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I went to Gettsyburg in 2009. It was a very hot day in the 90's that didn't start out too well. I had my young children, the baby messed himself and one of my daughters went to a restroom and the toilet water came back up at her after she flushed. Crazy day. But after all the mishaps, we really enjoyed the museum and walking around looking at all the many different monuments. I homeschool so this really made history more alive for all of us. Thanks for the giveaway.

We visited there on the 149th anniversary, last year. I now can recognize all the places in your pictures! I remember the discovery of Houck's Ridge - a family name. My family & I go to Gettysburg at least every other year. We love it! We have gone at least 20 times. We always find something new every time we go! Especially love the Shriver House and just walking the battlefield and trying to picture the battle. We are gong to try to go this Labor Day so we can visit the new museum at the Lutheran Seminary. Can't Wait!!!

Loved the pictures...shared the whole album!

We have visited the battlefield twice and would love to visit it again. We have not had the time to see much of the town other than driving through...such a shame....need to do that. The most moving places for me, is standing at the high water mark and looking over the vast open fields. I cried both times....also Little Round Top....also very moving place.

I visited Gettysburg several times in the past, and always found touring the battlefields a very moving experience. Can't imagine what it must have been like for those soldiers, many of them young, to be facing the enemy at close quarters as they did. I also can't imagine what it must have been like for the local inhabitants to experience not only the battles but also the aftermath. Their lives were changed forever by acts that they could not avoid. After seeing your pictures, I want to go back again to see the new museums etc. that have risen since my visits.

I loved all the pictures, I have never been to Gettysburg and would love to go. I also loved the book Widow of Gettysburg. Debra

My fave photo I think is the very first one the of Seminary Ridge Museum! I have to say, however, I am quite in love with the photo of the boulder with the flowers through the middle of it!!

I visited Gettysburg about 10 years ago on a family trip. We only had a few hours to spend in Gettysburg and you really need a minimum of 3 days to do it justice. Perhaps this fall my husband and I will make the trip back. Great pictures!

I love the pctures inside of the buildings and homes... I love to look inside old homes and imagine what is was like back in the day! All your pictures were beautiful though! :) history always makes me think of my grandma because she loved to research and explore history... I like the photo of you by Willoughby Run the best. It's so neat to see what it actually looks like!

My favorite picture is the one of you on Little Round Top. I am fascinated by Colonel Joshua L. Chamberlain and the story of the bayonet charge by the 20th Maine. We were supposed to be at Gettysburg for the 150th anniversary...I didn't even know who you were when we made plans...but I got sick and we couldn't come. I've since read Widow of Gettysburg and am almost finished with Wedded to War. I hadn't thought about the part women played in the Civil War. Now I find myself doing research on Civil War medicine, nursing, the US Sanitary Commission, etc. Thank you for such intriguing characters and interesting history.

I've never been to Gettysburg before, but your pictures make me wish that I could. I don't really have a favorite picture, I love them all. I even love the pictures of the giveaway. Pat is so talented; her dolls are so special. And the quilt is gorgeous! I've made baby quilts as gifts but have never received a handmade one before. I would truly love to win this one to use for my new grandbabies that will arrive this Fall. My daughter and I went to Gettysburg a few years ago. We had gone to see my sister in D.C. and my brother-in-law took us there for my sister's birthday. We did a 3 hour guided tour. My daughter learned so much, and I know when we start American History in school she will be able to retain much of the Civil War information because she went. :)
