I love immersing myself in a great book, and then visiting the book's setting. And clearly, many of you love doing this too! These three photos were sent to me by three different readers who took Widow of Gettysburg on tour in Gettysburg. (Thanks Christin Faber, Meghan Gorecki, and Rebecca Halton!)
Reading about a certain time period and setting before visiting makes the location really come to life--and the history, as well. With that as my inspiration, I've just compiled the Christian Historical Fiction Travel Guide, a seven-page document full of my favorite books and the related sites you can visit! With plenty of input from other avid readers, the books on this list span four centuries of American history and reach from sea to shining sea. With this list, you'll be able to:
- Find an earthquake shack in San Francisco, from Karen Barnett's Golden Gates Chronicles series
- Visit the Swan House in Atlanta for which Elizabeth Musser's The Swan House was named
- Discover the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, featured in Sarah Sundin's Waves of Freedom series
- Explore New York's Fort William Henry, which fell in the beginning of The Wood's Edge by Lori Benton
- Lose yourself in North Carolina's Biltmore Estate, setting for Maid to Match by Deanne Gist
- Experience a Norsk festival in North Dakota, and have your Red River of the North book signed by author Lauraine Snelling
- See Mount Vernon through Martha Washington's eyes after reading Nancy Moser's Washington's Lady
- Tour a Japanese-American World War 2 internment camp in Wyoming, the setting of Alice J. Wisler's Under the Silk Hibiscus
- And much more!
Each book title is linked to the book's Goodreads page so you can read more about the story and add it to your list. Every suggested place to visit is also linked to a Web site giving you more details.
So how do you get this amazing guide? :) I've created it as a free gift for those who subscribe to my e-newsletter. Subscribe here, and then after you confirm your subscription from your email inbox, you'll be taken to a Web page that contains the link to the downloadable guide. The email newsletter is different from this blog. You'll receive exclusive updates such as cover reveals (The Mark of the King to be revealed June 7 in the newsletter!), new book contracts, and more inside scoops.
Already subscribed? No problem! Just email me and I'll send you the Christian Historical Fiction Travel Guide right back. Thank you!
