Free to Lean Back-to-School Give-away

Sun, 2017-09-03 14:19 -- Jocelyn Green

Well, Labor Day is behind us and students are back in school. My kids are in third and sixth grades this year, and my husband is in graduate school while also working full-time at a university library. But learning isn't just for classrooms, is it?

In fact, whether we realize it or not, all of us are being taught via hundreds of messages every day. Take a look at the bullets below and see if any of them sound familiar to you:

  • You can and should do it all.
  • Everyone else is doing it all.
  • You need to be more balanced.
  • Slowing down your pace is a sign of laziness.
  • Your value is based on what you produce.
  • Saying "no" to a request on your time is selfish.

I could go on, but that list is getting a little depressing! For the record, every one of those statements above is false. But too many of us buy into them, which only leads to guilt and shame, and a striving after wrong priorities. Friends, it's time we all go back to school on this idea of balance.

Cynthia is right (in the video above). If you're a believer, your purpose is far bigger than "balance." Free to Lean applies to any woman who is weary of striving for that unattainable notion, and is ready for the peace that comes with following God-led priorities. That could be a mother of small children, a college student, a company executive, a pastor’s wife, a caregiver for elderly parents—anyone! It doesn’t matter if you’re married, single, with or without children, or what you do during the day. If you’re tired of trying to do it all, sister, this book is for you.

You can read more about the book here, but I'd love for you take a moment or two and see what other women had to say after reading it themselves. Below you'll find four different women sharing what they personally took away from Free to Lean.

For more Free to Lean videos, see my PlayList on YouTube here.

Friend, I hope you'll find a copy of Free to Lean for yourself. You won't be hearing just from me within the pages, but from more than fifty other women I interviewed for this project, and of course, from God's Word, too. He has plenty to say about how we order our days.

The Give-Away

I'm so excited about this Free to Lean Give-away! One luck winner will receive everything you see in the package below. A Free to Lean notebook, two Free to Lean post-it notepads, a bunch of bookmarks, two purple pens (my very favorite writing utensil) and a mug which says, "God never asked us to do it all." To enter the drawing, please use the Rafflecopter form below. (If you do not see the form, you can click here to be taken to it on a separate Web page instead.) A winner will be drawn and notified Monday, October 2. The winner will have three days to respond with a mailing address before I select a runner-up.

Aren't those videos great? I love them too! Thanks for sharing like crazy, Alexis! ;)

I soooo NEED this!! I am trying to overcome the "perfect and trying to control" mindset. Anything I can do to get better at it is much desired! Thanks for the chance to receive this package!! :)

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Michelle, then I hope you get a chance to read Free to Lean! You might already be aware of this, but Shannon Popkin, who was featured in one of the videos above, also wrote a book I think you would love called Control Girl. It is so, so good! Shannon shares some insights in Free to Lean, too, but I think reading both books would be great for you!

Submitted by Shannon Popkin on
You're so sweet to mention my book here, Jocelyn. Michelle was on my launch team! :) Hopefully I helped her find you and your new book, too! :)

Submitted by Kathy Guzzo on
I'm so excited about this book. Although I'm now at a different season in my life, I remember the years I had 4 children at home and I tried to do it all. I know this book will minister to the hearts of many women struggling with to balance life, desiring to lean but not sure how to go about it.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Thank you Kathy! Different seasons of life definitely have different priorities and pressures. I truly hope this book helps alleviate some of the pressures we put on ourselves needlessly.

Submitted by Liz on
This book. Seriously. If you haven't read it, don't walk, RUN to your nearest book seller and buy it. So refreshing, informative, convicting, and wonderful. To top it all off, Jocelyn is just a gem of a person :)

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Aw, Liz! Thank you so much, friend! I am beyond thrilled to hear you enjoyed Free to Lean! Thanks for taking a chance on it and investing the time to read it!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Heather, thank you for stopping by and entering the drawing! Good luck to you!

Super excited for this book to find it's way into the hands of women around the globe. :) Praying the Lord will use it mightily!!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Thank you so much, Shannon! (And that is so cool that Michelle was on your launch team. :) )

I would love to read this book. I am disabled with chronic lyme disease. I am housebound. I feel so quilty that I can't do more, be out there doing all the church activities, volunteering, etc. But I can't. It is so hard to trust God sometimes, especially the days I can;t get out of bed. I need to lean on Him.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Mary, I hope and pray this book helps to remove some of that false guilt you are feeling. I'm so sad to think about the days when you can't get out of bed! Praying for you.

Submitted by Christina Barth on
Really looking forward to reading this! I think we were at TU during the same time--but our paths didn't cross.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Oh really, Christina? Sorry we missed each other! Always happy to hear from fellow TU grads! Thanks for stopping by.

Submitted by Cheryl Barker on
Jocelyn, I would love to read your new book. Love your fiction and would love to read one of your non-fiction. And yes, I struggle with some areas that this book covers :) Will share it on social media sometime in the next few days. Thanks for the giveaway!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Thanks so much, Cheryl! I would love for you to read Free to Lean, too. I appreciate all your support!

Submitted by Beth on
I listen to the lie that everyone else is doing everything well and that I'm failing. I try to be so careful to compare my story to another person's story but it's hard!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
That comparison trap is so easy to fall into! I catch myself stumbling in that area, too, even though I've written a book that addresses the problem! It's an ongoing journey, that's for sure. Thanks for stopping by, Beth!

Submitted by Becky Hriv on
I'm pretty sure I could use something to help with my lopsided life :) SO thankful that "God never asked us to do it all." Sometimes I just have to put Ps 46:10 into action...Blessings to you!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Becky, thanks so much for stopping by! I, too, am so glad God hasn't asked us to do it all. It's so easy to put pressure on ourselves to do more than we need to, or to feel bad about not doing more than we can. Psalm 46:10 is an excellent reminder!

Submitted by Jackie Wisherd on
I would like to read and share this book with my granddaughter.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
That's a great idea. It would be a valuable tool for some neat inter-generational discussions, I'm sure.

Submitted by Tammy Cordery on
Thanks for the giveaway for a great sounding book. I need all the help I can get in my life. It is so lopsided I feel like I will fall off.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Oh Tammy, I hear what you're saying! I hope you get a chance to read this book!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Julie, it would certainly be a great one to share and discuss with frineds. Thank you!

Submitted by Michele on
I am looking forward to your insights! I struggle with feeling like I'm not doing enough.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Michele, I think so many of us struggle with that same feeling. It's no fun. Thank you for being here!

Submitted by Carol on
I really want to read this book! While i love to be involved in many things, inside and outside my church, i am trying to 'balance' it all and say no or not just now to more on my plate. Even saying no to a simple thing like signing up to teach children's Sunday school. (Is that bad? ). Especially as i step out into more of a 'new' thing for my own self. See? That seems wrong to me? That i need to wait and have nothing else on my plate and a completely empty nest before i start leaning into what i think are more God nudges. But i still need to know its okay. And probably have that on repeat. Which is why i need this book! Even with all that i do, i feel like and probably am neglecting someone, or something. Love this giveaway!! Thanks for offering it. Love using purple pens too!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Oh Carol, from what you've said in this comment, I can tell this book has your name on it! Please do find a copy to read, and highlight, and underline and dog-ear. There is so much I want to say to you--and it's pretty much all in the book. (But I can't resist telling you right now that it's not a bad thing to say no to good things, if that's what you need to do to clear space for what you think God is asking you to do!)

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Thank you so much, Linda! Hugs to you! (Enjoy ACFW if you're going this year--and know I'll be thinking of you! :) )

Submitted by Betti on
I have not read this book, but certainly can see how good it would be for me to do so!! It is so easy to say yes and so hard to say no. Thanks so much for putting together such a lovely giveaway - all one needs to sit down, read and learn to lean.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Betti, you're more than welcome! I do hope you get a chance to read the book, and feel more freedom to say no to the good so you can yes to God's best for you.

Submitted by Debbie Clatterbuck on
I would like to read this book because it might just help me overcome my problem of trying to control the happiness of the people around me. I get into so many problems by not saying no when I should. Thanks for the giveaway and good luck everyone.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Ooh, yes, I can understand where you're coming from, Debbie, and I do hope this book would help free you from that!

Submitted by Lucy Reynolds on
I think I need to read this as I feel if I don't do it all when asked that I'm lazy. Truth is I'm just plain tired. Haha Have a wonderful and blessed day.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Oh, Lucy, you're not lazy! That's a common feeling, but don't believe it. :) You have a great day too.

Submitted by Gail Hollingsworth on
At this time in my life I definitely need to lean more on Christ. I'm caring for a mother With dementia and some days are very difficult!

Submitted by Cynthia St. Germain on
Thank you for the chance to win. I have not been able to read it yet. But it is on my list of books to read. I plan once I do it to share it with a friends.

Submitted by Joelle Strandquist on
I would like to read this book because I enjoy your writing, but also because it is hard for me to say no to people without feeling guilty about it.
